Fan Sun

Hello, everyone. I am Fan Sun. I am 36 years old and a driver by profession. I haven’t attended class for a long time because of the pandemic. I came to attend this class as soon as it became available.

Before attending the class, because of long hours of driving, my back was very tired and I had pain in my abdominal/ large intestine area. This pain was just like the pain in my abdominal muscles after doing sit-ups. I think this also affected my digestive system. I always felt like I was not having a thorough bowel movement. After attending this 8.5-Day Bodhi Meditation Health and Happiness Retreat for a few days, the pain in my abdomen disappeared and my bowel movements became smooth.

Previously, perhaps due to the long driving hours, numbness occurred in my ankle, toes, and hands. I was not able to step on the brakes directly as I could not control my ankle and toes well due to the numbness. I had to use my thigh to control the leg and foot to complete the task. When going upstairs, I also could not directly step, but had to use my thigh to control the action. The numbness of my hands and foot sometimes caused me to be unable to carry things. On the first or second day of the course, I could feel cold air moving down along my leg. I couldn’t move my toes and ankle, and they hurt very much. By the third or fourth day, the pain and numbness in my foot had completely disappeared. I felt relaxed when standing, even for long periods of time, and my whole body felt clear and unblocked.

Regarding the diet experience, I thought it was miraculous. I used to eat so much that I normally ate five or six meals a day, and I got hungry soon after eating. So, I ate a lot at each meal. But after two days of attending the class, I naturally lost my desire to eat. I ate a little at lunch even when I didn’t feel that hungry. When performing the “Mudra of Universal Connectivity” of the Meditation of Greater Illumination, as I visualize light entering my body, I had to go to the restroom. But in fact, I went to the restroom in the morning after I woke up, and again after breakfast. It was not diarrhea. It was normal bowel movement which made me feel that I was excreting unclean things from my body. I thought I should have lost a lot of weight due to the decreased food intake and increased discharge, but I didn’t lose much. Thus, I really think I was excreting the unclean things from my body. Before the class, because I ate a lot, I felt sleepy easily, and thus experienced a poor state of mind. After a few days of the class, I was full of energy and didn’t feel tired late at night. My digestive system felt comfortable, and my whole body felt relaxed.

Regarding my emotional state, I think it is connected to my physical condition. Before the class, I didn’t feel like doing anything. But by the sixth or seventh day of the class, I was very happy, even when I wasn’t practicing. It’s hard to describe the feeling: like when I am going home, I want to fly, roll, or do a somersault leaving this hall. It was a very happy feeling. I had a lot of distracting thoughts when I was practicing before, but they slowly decreased, and my thoughts disappeared. I started to understand a little bit of the content of “Buddhist Robes.” This little bit of understanding made me feel that the content of “Buddhist Robes” was so profound. It is difficult to express in words, but it greatly enhanced my confidence in meditation.
