I came to the 8.5-Day Health & Happiness Retreat because I have depression and stress. I know from past classes that with the practice of MGI (Meditation of Greater Illumination) I can improve my state of mind and body with the energy I receive. I become happy.

Since 2018, I had pain in my right hip and leg when I tried to get up from sitting cross-legged. When I went to the doctor, he said that I needed therapy. Therapy made the pain worse. I was worried, because I am 65 years old and thought I might not be able to walk well as I get older. This made me feel depressed.

During my recent visit to my home country of Ecuador, the pandemic happened. This made my depression worse. I felt very alone. Fortunately, I had a CD with me of Grandmaster’s chanting. I played the CD and chanted with Grandmaster for the whole eight months I was in Ecuador. The chanting elevated my mood and made me feel less alone. I also practiced prostration every day. This was an impactful experience for me. I realized that my practice helped me to manage my depression and pain. But, I felt I needed more help to overcome these issues.

When I returned from my visit, my family could see that I was depressed. Right away, I called the Center to ask when classes would be offered. I really needed to take a class. I felt it was an emergency! I believed I could have leg and hip pain relief through taking the class. I believed I could feel happier.

At that time, because of the pandemic, it was not possible for the Center to open. One of the volunteers shared Grandmaster’s teachings about chanting with me. I listened to them and chanted with Grandmaster. Step by step, I improved. I still needed to take a class and to practice the Meditation of Greater Illumination. I knew it would help because of my past experiences during the Health & Happiness Retreat. It was a terrible thing for me not to be able to go to the Center.

As soon as I could, I registered for class. I think it was only the second one offered after the opening of the Center. As a result of taking this class, my hip and leg pain have greatly reduced. Before, my legs were almost too heavy to be able to walk. Now, I’m feeling so much better! I can walk fast! I have flexibility!

The class was very good for me. My body feels right again. I am thankful for my recovery from depression. I am happy!
