New York Bodhi Meditation Center - 2020 Ullambana Festival Online Blessing Ceremony

The fifteenth day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar is Buddha’s Joyful Day. It is a day for us to express our gratitude to our relatives and do meritorious deeds for our ancestors, elders, relatives, friends, and karmic creditors from this and past lives to resolve past grievances.

Our parents are the Buddhas in our lives. Therefore, to honor our parents is to make the Buddha happy. Our peace, auspiciousness and the expression of our gratitude by sharing our testimony makes the Buddha and Grandmaster rejoice. These are also the best ways to bring us closer to the Buddha and Grandmaster.

Grandmaster shared the testimonies of several fellow New York practitioners in the live broadcast of “Auspiciousness From Filial Piety” Group Practice Part 3. What is even more exciting is that the volunteers of the New York Center had taken a family portrait before the large “Bodhi in Boyhood” painting and received the blessing from Grandmaster JinBodhi of “Buddha Illumination.” All the New York disciples and fellow practitioners felt special and proud.

Teacher Guan Shan led everyone to use body, speech, mind, and heartfelt sincerity to chant the “Ksitigarbha Mantra” for our ancestors.

The candles were lit as we chanted the mantra, bringing light and warmth to our ancestors and relatives, and sending blessings and auspiciousness to those we pray for in our hearts.

The practitioners chanted with sincerity. The blessing tablets were filled with our wishes for our ancestors, and repentance to those we have hurt, karmic creditors and aborted infants. Through our sincere chanting, we wished all sentient beings can let go of their hatred, escape reincarnation forever, and be reborn in the pure land, with peace and comfort.

Teacher Guan Shan advised us to use our gratitude to follow the great aspiration of Grandmaster. With a steadfast heart, let us express our gratitude and improve our lives. We should make good use of our limited life, practice the Dharma, do no evil and be virtuous. Instead of asking, let us give.  One easy way to do so is to introduce Grandmaster JinBodhi’s YouTube Channel to those who have not yet subscribed.

The event came to an auspicious completion as we gave out the gifts of five-colored grain and edible oil, the Mahãkãla Guardian Auspicious card, the five-color cord bracelet and delicious lunch boxes to everyone.

Although the format of the event has changed due to the pandemic, what remains unchanged is everyone’s sincere respect. The online live broadcast of the event can cross national borders, and anyone can receive the special blessings from the event whether day or night. We thank the volunteers for making this possible. Although we cannot be physically together, our hearts remain connected and the energy from our sincere chanting will spread infinitely.

The intent of the testimonial is to offer wellness information of a general nature. Individual results of practice may vary.
