Yuan Kai Testimonial

Yuan Kai

During the autumn season of 2019, my mother, who is over 90 years old, accidentally slipped and fell. At that time, the ambulance brought her to the emergency room. The initial diagnosis showed that she had a fracture in her hip. I felt this was rather fortunate, because tests results revealed that my mother’s T-score was -5.7. For a normal person, a T-score below -2 indicates osteoporosis. Her T-score was -5.7, which means her bones are as brittle as glass. With this condition, she did not have a comminuted (splintered) fracture. I am so grateful. It is because I made light offerings. I consistently make light offerings for her on the first and fifteenth of each Lunar month.

On that day when we were waiting in the emergency room, it was very crowded. The initial diagnosis showed that she needed to be admitted and required an operation. But as it was too busy, we waited from morning till noon and still could not get a bed. As we were waiting, my mother’s face was pale, and her breath was weak. They restrained her as she was not allowed to move. She was moaning and sighing. She was not able to eat or drink. As she could not speak, tears flowed from her eyes. I was so sad, tears also flowed from my eyes.

What could I do? Immediately, I thought, I need to get her a bed soon. How do I do that? My first thought was the Meditation Center. I needed to make a light offering for her, so I called the Center. The volunteer at the Center was very kind and she lit the candle for me immediately. Over the ten days that my mother was hospitalized, I made various light offerings for her.

For her operation on the third day, due to her old age, she was not given general anesthesia. It was only local anesthesia for the upper half of her body. The anesthesia was to be applied to her spine area. The doctor was concerned that she not move as it had to be very precise. However, thanks to the Buddha, Bodhisattvas and Grandmaster’s blessings, the doctor later told me that my mother was very cooperative. They were able to give the injection at the right spot. With correct application of anesthesia, the operation was also smoother. After the operation, she was transferred to the observation ward. During the observation period, she was well and did not get any infection or other complications. She could also eat a little.

After around ten days, she was transferred to the rehabilitation center. However, due to her old age, and also her generally poor condition, progress was slow when she first went to the rehabilitation center. During that time, I visited her daily. Sometimes, honestly, there were too many patients at the rehabilitation center and they couldn’t cope. At times when I arrived a little late, I might find her dirty and wet, sometimes with feces. She was pitiful and helpless. She also couldn’t really communicate since the staff there spoke English. She was constantly looking forward to our visits but she could not express herself. I was so sad. I thought, I really need to find a way for her to be discharged sooner. At that time, I called the Center again. I said I need to make a light offering. I need to find a way for her to be discharged sooner.

As she was able to walk before she fell, the rehabilitation center needed her to be able to walk again before they could discharge her. This was rather difficult to achieve due to her old age. However, the light offering worked. After more than two months, my mother could actually walk with the aid of a walker. Slowly, she walked and I accompanied her as she walked to the bathroom. I helped her onto the toilet and she was able to have a bowel movement. It was initially very difficult when she could not walk and also had constipation. She needed medical assistance for that. So, it was initially a very difficult time. But I am very, very grateful. After more than two months, the rehabilitation center at the hospital agreed to let her return home. I am so grateful.

As soon as I got home, I made an incense offering to Grandmaster. I am grateful, for without Grandmaster’s blessing, without the Buddha’s and Bodhisattva’s protection, it would not have been possible for her to return home so soon. It’s commonly known that any broken bone requires 100 days to heal. Don’t forget that she is more than 90 years old. Thus, I am really very grateful. Thank you, Grandmaster.
